Bardock, a low-level Saiyan soldier, and his crew defeat the inhabitants of Planet Kanassa using the planet’s full moon to transform into Great Apes. Bardock is killed by a surviving warrior who gives him the “gift” of seeing the future to avenge his people. He returns to Planet Vegeta to heal and visit his infant son, Kakarot, who is being prepared to exterminate all life there. Bardock dismisses the visions and joins his team on Planet Meat, only to discover most of them dead and Tora mortally wounded. Tora reveals that Bardock’s squad was betrayed and killed by Frieza’s henchman Dodoria. Bardock defeats Dodoria’s soldiers and returns to Planet Vegeta. After his death, Bardock wishes Kakarot to carry out his will and avenge his people and planet. Kakarot wakes up and is found by an elderly man, Gohan, who adopts him as his grandson, Goku. Goku’s battles against various forces are shown in the ending credits.
